Question:
Is homeopathy vegan or vegetarian-friendly?
Susy
Parker Goins replies: Yes and no. Many homeopathic remedies
come from plants and minerals, and those would be non-animal sources.
But many remedies do come from animals, including Apis mellifica
(honey bee), Lachesis (bushmaster snake venom and Thyroidium (thyroid
gland).
I understand that veganism warrants the complete
elimination of using animal products, but some remedies from animals
such as Lachesis do not involve harming the animal. Also, once
you get to a dilution of 24X (same as 12C), there is no remnant
of the original substance in the remedy.
There are many books available that explain the
source of each remedy. Have one on hand to refer to when you choose
your remedies.
