Extreme Parenting or Extraordinary Parents?
Natural Family Online was “turned on” to a video making its rounds on Attachment Parenting.
Watch an interesting clip from the UK called Honey I suckled the Kids.
Though the clip seems positive, it was actually a negative Sixty Minutes AU interview that followed. You can watch the video here or read the transcript here where you can see the following quote:
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Mothers breastfeeding five year olds. You would have to admit, it doesn’t look quite right. Now this is not some fringe New-Age fad. These people are deadly serious, parents with very firm ideas about how we should bring up our kids. Firstly, you have to be there, attached to your child 24 hours a day. No school, no discipline and definitely no cots, prams, dummies or even nappies — they all break the mother-baby bond. And for some, breastfeeding on demand, regardless of age, is perfectly okay. Now, they’re confident all this will produce independent, free-thinking kids. But ask their critics and they say spoilt brats are more likely.

The way the interviewer is describing all attachment parents is actually an extreme that we rarely are. Not that extreme is wrong - it’s just a place on the very broad AP spectrum. But that wouldn’t make great news…
Still, we do share a common goal among the AP spectrum and regardless of the “experts” who know better, I look forward to seeing what our babies’ generation has to offer this world.
