a daily e-magazine for midstream parenting. We show readers how
to blend attachment
parenting and natural family living into today's modern culture.
What We're Looking For
NFO is currently seeking articles focusing on tips, tools and
strategies for implementing natural parenting and natural living
on a daily basis. Our readers want to know what makes natural
parenting practices beneficial, why they should use them and
how they can add natural parenting to their own family lives.
We are not looking for “warm fuzzy” articles about
breastfeeding, cosleeping or other AP/natural parenting practices.
NFO isn't about how the wonderful rush of love you feel when
you wake up and nurse your daughter, or the glorious power when
you birth your son, or the righteous indignation you felt when
you defended your daughter's emotions before a callous coach
or teacher ... Those are all wonderful things that are being
covered in other places. Personal essays are not what we’re
after. Think tips and tools, and you will be on the right track.
Topics of interest:
• Attachment
parenting topics and AP with older children (extended AP) as
well as
attachment parenting for adoptive and special needs families.

Breastfeeding (emphasizing extended BF, re-lactating, tandem
BF and so on; not BF how-to’s)
• Green living, including recycling, gardening, and sustainable
living
• Natural home, including green decorating, green cleaning, and
more
• Activism in the natural family community - what can we do and
what should we know?
• Family life, emphasizing natural and organic tools and practices
• Nutrition and healthy cooking
• Vegan and vegetarian living
• Organic and whole foods nutrition and cooking
• Co-sleeping, the family bed and night-time parenting
• Natural beauty and body care
• Holistic approaches to emotional well-being and general spirituality
• Yoga, Pilates and other exercise techniques
• Natural pregnancy and childbirth
• Educational and lifelong learning, including homeschooling
and unschooling
• Health care alternatives (emphasizing child and family health
issues)
• Cloth diapering and elimination communication/infant potty
training
• Seasonal celebrations, holidays and entertaining
• Family vacations and getaways
• Family entertainment, fun, crafts, games and more
• Natural pet care
• Working from home (specific to the interests and needs of natural
families) and/or starting a natural family business
Article
Format and Specifics
Articles range from 500 to 850 words and must be well researched,
factual pieces. No pseudo-science, please; we expect references
for scientific facts you cite or claims that you make. Quotes
from expert sources are strongly suggested. Resource boxes
(listing books, magazines, organizations and web sites related
to your topic) are highly desirable.
Queries are appreciated and prevent you from submitting a piece
we may already have covered. Send queries and submissions to
the specified editor on the contact
page. If you cannot find
the editor you need, e-mail Editor-in-Chief Lisa Poisso. Please
include your submission in the body of your e-mail; unsolicited
attachments will not be accepted.
Payment and Publication
Natural Family Online pays $20 within 30 days of publication
for original articles. We do not pay for reprints, including
pieces that have appeared on personal or professional web sites.
We reserve the right to hold the article for publication up
to four months. NFO buys 60-day first electronic rights; writers
may not re-publish online elsewhere for 60 days without our
permission. Writers may re-publish in print 30 days after publication
on NFO. We request archival rights for the remainder of our
business life, but writers may request that articles be pulled
after 24 months. We reserve the right to use the article in
a print publication in the future, upon which you will be issued
another payment.
We reserve the right to reject any query or submission without
explanation. We reserve the right to re-title, modify, edit for
length and clarity, abridge and/or fact-check any material.
Photographs
We reserve the right to use any photographs that are accepted
on Natural Family Online and in any marketing materials in
any media now and in the future.
Reprints
We accept reprints for articles to which you hold the copyright.
When submitting, please include the piece’s publication
history. There is no payment for reprints.
